Uttar Pradesh:  the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing for the December 14 election of a new state president. Since Bhupendra Chaudhary’s tenure as president expired in January, the position has remained empty. Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey, a former Union Minister and the party’s state election officer, made the statement on Thursday. According to him, nomination papers for the position will be taken on December 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the state headquarters.

Senior executives will supervise polls and nominations.
Vinod Tawde, the Central Election Observer and National General Secretary of the BJP, would be present throughout the nomination process, according to Pandey. He will be in charge of the nomination papers that are submitted for the position of state president. On December 14, the Central Election Officer and Union Minister Piyush Goyal will oversee the completion of the final election process.

Although there is a lot of uncertainty around the next state president, party sources predict that the selection will be made with the 2027 Assembly elections in mind. It is generally anticipated that the BJP would choose an OBC candidate for the top organizational position.

The race’s top OBC names
Among the key figures being considered are Rajya Sabha MP B L Verma, Maharajganj MP Pankaj Chaudhary, and former Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti. Seven-time Maharajganj MP Pankaj Chaudhary is seen as a powerful OBC representative of the party and is hence a serious candidate.

The OBC member Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, who speaks for the Nishad group, has also become a serious contender. There have been rumors about her promotion since she recently met JP Nadda, the national head of the BJP.

Another OBC politician from the Lodhi tribe, Rajya Sabha MP BL Verma, is also being taken into consideration. Swatantra Dev Singh and Dharmpal Singh’s names have also come up in party conversations.

The UP leader will be chosen by new BJP district members.
The much-awaited nomination of the new state president has gained more attention after the Uttar Pradesh BJP revealed the list of its “prantiya parishad” members earlier on Tuesday. The chosen members, who were mostly chosen from 84 organizational districts, will now take part in the state chief election. In these districts, the party has effectively finished establishing its organizational framework, which includes designating district presidents.

It should be noted that elections for the state’s 403 members of the legislative assembly are anticipated to take place in February or March of 2027. The most recent Assembly elections took place in February and March of 2022. Following the election, Yogi Adityanath was appointed Chief Minister for the second consecutive term by the BJP, which constituted the state government.
