UIDAI New Update: For many years, providing a photocopy of your Aadhaar card has become commonplace wherever you need to provide your identity. Hotels, mobile stores, offices, and events were almost universally accepted. This process had become so commonplace that it felt like a ticket. But now this old habit is about to end. According to a PTI report, UIDAI is preparing a new rule that will ban the collection and storage of physical Aadhaar photocopies. This change could transform the entire identity verification system across the country.
The Real Reason for the Photocopy Ban
Aadhaar numbers are extremely sensitive information, and millions of photocopies of them lie unprotected in various locations—a hotel drawer, a store's file cabinet, or an office storage room. These massive amounts of paper copies pose a significant threat to privacy.
The UIDAI aims to eliminate this lax system and prevent your personal information from falling into the wrong hands. Therefore, the focus is shifting from relying on paper copies to digital, secure, and fast verification.
Identification will now be through a QR code
The small QR code on every Aadhaar card is a real game-changer. This code contains your basic, encrypted information, which can be scanned to instantly verify your identity, without revealing your full Aadhaar number.
This method is not only secure but also less susceptible to misuse than photocopies. UIDAI is also developing an app that will allow businesses to verify Aadhaar without an internet or database connection. This means that even hotel check-in will be completed with just one scan.
Registration with UIDAI will be required
Now, any organization wishing to perform Aadhaar verification, whether it's a hotel, telecom company, bank, or event organizer, will need to register with UIDAI. Only after registration will they be able to use the new QR-based tools. This will make the identity verification process uniform, secure, and trackable across the country.
The rule will be implemented soon
According to the UIDAI CEO, the new rule has been approved and will be notified soon. This clearly indicates that the old method of identity verification is about to end. For users, this means less paperwork, less risk, and more security. For organizations, this is an opportunity to become part of a modern and reliable system.
