Required Exams to Become a BCCI Umpire

To become an umpire in the BCCI, the BCCI conducts the Level 1 umpire exam every year. Candidates are given a coaching class three days before the exam. Selection is then made based on merit. Selected candidates undergo an induction course, where they are taught the nuances of umpiring. This is followed by a practical and oral test. After clearing this exam, candidates appear for the Level 2 exam. To qualify for the Level 2 exam, it is necessary to pass the Level 1 exam, and the Level 2 exam must also be cleared within one year of passing the Level 1 exam. An umpire's earnings depend on whether they are officiating domestic or international matches. Generally, BCCI umpires' fees are determined by Grades A, B, and C. Grade A umpires receive approximately ₹40,000 per match, while Grade B and C umpires receive approximately ₹30,000 per match. However, this salary varies depending on experience and match level.
