Chaudhary, who is also an OBC, is reportedly the front-runner for the position of BJP president of Uttar Pradesh. On Sunday, December 14, the saffron party is probably going to make a statement on this.

Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary is the president of the Uttar Pradesh BJP at the moment. Chaudhary, a well-known Jat figure and member of the state Legislative Council, took over in August 2022, replacing Swatantra Dev Singh.

“At now, we have around 2.5 crore active subscribers. Elections for local committees are now concluded. We have already appointed 84 district presidents out of 98 districts. In an interview with reporters in Amethi on December 2, Chaudhary said, “Our organization is fully prepared for the election of the new state president.”

Other contenders in the race
State ministers Swatantra Dev Singh and Dharmpal Singh, Rajya Sabha MP BL Verma, and former Union Minister Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti are also running for the position of BJP’s Uttar Pradesh unit president. Jyoti is an OBC who is a member of the Nishad community, much as Chaudhary. Although he represents the Lodhi community, Verma is also an OBC.

With the local body elections next year and the 2027 assembly elections in mind, there is a very good chance that the BJP would choose an OBC man as its president in Uttar Pradesh. The BJP won 255 seats in the 403-member Legislative Assembly in the 2022 elections, securing control in the state for a second term in a row.

In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh elections, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party, won a total of 273 seats. The Samajwadi Party, headed by Akhilesh Yadav, gained 111 seats and improved on its record in the 2017 elections, but it was unable to overthrow the BJP.
