Gujarat: Five workmen were hurt when a bamboo structure that was assisting in the building of a new bridge on Kailash Road in Valsad, Gujarat, fell on Friday morning. Around nine in the morning, a construction team leveling a makeshift bund between two pillars across the Auranga River collapsed.
Following a distress call at 9.20 am, the fire department arrived first. Recounting the quick reaction, Firefighter Lalit Parmar said, “We arrived right away and moved four workers for medical attention.” We checked the location later and discovered that nobody was trapped. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
The ground assessment was described by Valsad District Collector Bhavya Verma, who said, “The tragedy happened this morning and five persons have been hurt. One is very ill, and the other four are doing well. When the workers were working at ground level, a jack and load imbalance caused the tragedy. She further said that the bridge, which was approved for a two-year construction period with one year left, had a budget of Rs 42 crore. “A committee will be established to look at this. On the basis of the results, further action will be taken,” she said.
Senior engineering personnel have been sent to the location, according to PR Patelia, secretary of the Roads and Buildings Department. “The Surat Executive Engineer and Superintending Engineer have been tasked with conducting an investigation and are expected to submit a report within a day or two.” Additionally, he said, “A error in lifting caused the jack that was supposed to be lifted to slide. At the moment, the procedure is carried out by hand. The hospital has taken up the wounded. They are all minor injuries and none of them are severe.
“A bund was being laid for the overbridge on the Auranga river between 9 and 9.15 am,” said Yuvrajsinh Jadeja, the chief of police for Valsad District. A section of the building slipped as it was being leveled. Doctors said the five laborers who were saved and sent for treatment are doing well.
The bridge’s builder, Jayesh Patel, identified a human error. “Human mistake seems to be the cause. This building is just temporary. There have been five injuries. All individuals and the bridge have been insured. Today, there were only five employees present at the location.
