Cold has now broken the back in Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert on 15 December 2025. There is a possibility of heavy snowfall in the hilly areas, while there will be dense fog in the plains. Snowfall has started in the high hilly areas of the state like Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh and Rudraprayag. Due to this the temperature can drop to minus 5 degrees.
Snow on the mountains, roads closed
According to the Meteorological Department, there will be moderate to heavy snowfall in high altitude areas of Uttarakhand on December 15. Traffic may be disrupted due to accumulation of snow on Badrinath Highway and Gangotri Dham Road. Tourists have been advised to postpone traveling to hill stations. In the last 24 hours, 4-6 inches of snow has fallen in Mussoorie and Auli, due to which the local people are also facing problems.
Fog terror in the plains
There will be dense fog in the plains like Dehradun, Haridwar and Nainital. Visibility can reduce to 50 meters, increasing the risk of accidents on the highway. The minimum temperature will be around 4-6 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists say that due to western disturbance this cold wave will continue till December 17.
What precautions to take?
People are being advised to wear warm clothes and go out less. The administration is in alert mode to ensure that there is no problem of electricity and water in rural areas.
