Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav's wretched form continued in the third T20I against South Africa at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, December 14. While India chased down a paltry 118-run target with seven wickets and 25 balls to spare, Shubman and Suryakumar made 28 (28) and 12 (11), respectively.
The upcoming T20 World Cup is just two months away, and India have just seven T20Is remaining before the marquee event gets underway. The Indian captain and vice-captain struggling for runs is a worrying sign for the defending champions.
However, Abhishek Sharma believes that both batters will regain their form and win games for India in the lead-up to the World Cup as well as in the 20-team extravaganza.
I’m looking for runs, not out of form: Suryakumar“I tell you one thing straight away that trust me, these two guys are going to win matches at the World Cup and before in other series as well,” Abhishek said after helping India take a 2-1 series lead. “I have been playing with them for so long, especially with Shubman, so I know where he can win the match, what are the conditions, irrespective of the team.
“I have a lot of faith in him from the beginning and I hope everyone will see it very soon and everyone will have faith," Abhishek stated.
Meanwhile, skipper Suryakumar said at the post-match presentation that he has been batting well in the nets and trying everything he can control. He asserted that he is not out of form but definitely short of runs.
“The thing is, I’ve been batting beautifully in the nets,” Suryakumar said at the post-match presentation. “I’m trying everything that’s in my control. When the runs have to come, they’ll definitely come. But yes, I’m looking for runs, not out of form, but definitely out of runs.”
The fourth T20I is scheduled to be played at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, December 17.
