At least thirteen people lost their lives and more than 25 others were injured in a massive vehicle pile-up on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura early Tuesday morning, police said.
The accident occurred around 4:30 am under the jurisdiction of Baldev Police Station when dense fog severely reduced visibility. At least seven buses along with several smaller vehicles collided on the Agra-to-Noida stretch of the expressway. Following the crash, some of the vehicles caught fire, leaving buses badly charred.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mathura, Shlok Kumar, confirmed the casualties, stating that four people died on the spot while 25 injured passengers were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Rescue teams and cranes were deployed to clear the damaged vehicles from the road. Visuals from the scene showed burnt buses and debris scattered across the highway.
Passengers stranded due to the accident were later transported to their destinations using government vehicles. Traffic on the expressway remains disrupted, and diversions have been put in place until the road is fully cleared.
