The bitter family dispute following industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s death has taken a sharper turn with his sister Mandhira Kapur openly hitting back at his widow Priya Sachdev Kapur. Reacting to Priya’s recent court claim that Sunjay’s mother Rani Kapur continues to receive over Rs 21 lakh per month from the company with her personal expenses taken care of Mandhira has called the statement misleading and deeply unfair. Speaking on the InControversial podcast Mandhira accused Priya of twisting facts and claimed that it is Priya who is drawing an enormous monthly amount from the family business running into several crores. Mandhira addressed Priya’s assertion made during a court hearing where she claimed that Rani Kapur continues to enjoy the same financial support she received when Sunjay was alive. Strongly disagreeing Mandhira said the reality is far from what has been projected. According to her while the amount was earlier shown as Rs 21 lakh per month deductions meant that Rani Kapur effectively received around Rs 13 lakh which has now dropped to approximately Rs 12 lakh. Mandhira stressed that this figure is shockingly low considering Rani Kapur is the wife of the company’s founder. “There is a difference between blood and an outsider” Mandhira said adding that her mother was entitled to far more during her husband’s lifetime and even after her son’s leadership of the company. Who is allegedly taking home crores every month? Taking direct aim at Priya Mandhira claimed that Sunjay Kapur’s widow is earning anywhere between Rs 3 crore and Rs 5 crore every single month. She alleged that Priya receives around Rs 1 crore from just one company and has effectively taken control of multiple income streams. In a pointed remark Mandhira said it was ironic that the creator’s wife is receiving Rs 12 lakh while according to her an “outsider” is earning crores. She dismissed any suggestion that Priya was doing a favour by looking after Rani Kapur insisting the money comes from the company not personal generosity. Who represents the Kapur family legacy? Mandhira also asserted that the company’s legacy remains firmly linked to her parents stating that Sona Comstar will always be associated with the Kapur family and not with the Sachdev name “no matter how much they try.” She went on to say that Priya is neither the face of the family nor the company and questioned her presence in matters relating to the Kapur legacy. The children have challenged the will presented by Priya alleging it is forged and fabricated to exclude them from their father’s inheritance. Sunjay Kapur chairman of auto components giant Sona Comstar passed away in June in London after collapsing during a polo match. He is survived by his children from both marriages with the legal and emotional battle over his legacy showing no signs of slowing down.
