Indian Railways is rapidly moving towards the future. After diesel and electricity, the railways have now taken a big step in the direction of hydrogen-powered trains. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed Parliament that Indian Railways has completed the construction of its first hydrogen train on a pilot basis.
The Railway Minister stated that this hydrogen train is considered to be the world's longest and most powerful train. This train has 10 coaches and its total power is 2400 kilowatts. The train has two special driving power cars, each with a capacity of 1200 kilowatts. Eight passenger coaches have been added to it. This train is completely environmentally friendly. It does not emit smoke and causes very little pollution. This is why it is considered a major step towards green transportation.
Where will the hydrogen come from?
Hydrogen is needed to run this train. For this, a hydrogen plant has been set up in Jind, Haryana. Here, hydrogen is being produced from water with the help of electricity. This process is called green hydrogen, which is considered safe for the environment.
How to become a hydrogen train driver?
Many young people think that a separate and new course will be required for the hydrogen train, but that is not the case. To become a hydrogen train driver, it is necessary to first become a loco pilot in Indian Railways. The process for this is already established and the same process will apply to the hydrogen train as well.
Eligibility for becoming a Loco Pilot
ITI (Trades like Electrician, Fitter, Mechanic)
Engineering Diploma
Separate Training?
According to reports, when hydrogen trains are operated regularly, loco pilots may be given special technical and safety training.
How much is the salary?
The starting salary of a loco pilot in Indian Railways is usually between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 40,000 per month. This includes a basic salary along with various allowances. Salaries increase with experience. An experienced loco pilot can earn between ₹35,000 and ₹100,000 per month, depending on their grade and the type of train they operate.
