Bruno Fernandes has hinted that Manchester United target Morten Hjulmand would be a perfect addition to the squad, lauding the midfielder's individual skills. The Sporting captain was strongly linked with a switch to Old Trafford last summer as the club sought to bolster their midfield. He is rumoured to be set for a reunion with Amorim at United after their time together in Lisbon.

Despite other names such as Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson being floated, speculation persists that United may revisit their interest in Hjulmand next year. According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils decided against prioritising midfield reinforcements last summer but are not in a hurry to expedite those plans by making a move in January.

However, any potential deal could face competition from Manchester City, with Portuguese outlet Record suggesting that City might also consider a possible deal.

Nevertheless, Fernandes has already given his seal of approval to the idea of potentially welcoming Hjulmand to Old Trafford in the near future.

Speaking to Portuguese broadcaster Canal 11, he was asked to name three players from the country's top flight who could fit into the Premier League.

"You have a lot of midfielders," said Fernandes. "One of them, because of his intelligence and the dynamic he brings to the game, is Fredrik Aursnes.

"He's a player who would adapt to the Premier League regardless of his physicality. He's slimbuilt, but I believe intelligent players always prevail here.

"Obviously, Morten Hjulmand is a complete player at the moment." When asked if he'd like to have Hjulmand at United, Fernandes declared: "He's a player who adds to the team.

"He's intelligent, aggressive, and in the Premier League you need that. But only once you're here do you realise if you're really made for the Premier League, because it's very different compared to other leagues.

"In my view, Hjulmand would adapt well here, but I also see him fitting in the Italian league."

Meanwhile, Fernandes' recent remarks about his future have fuelled further speculation. He suggested the club didn't have the nerve to tell him to depart last summer, and he intends to assess his future following the World Cup.

It's been reported that United have no intention of parting ways with Fernandes before the summer transfer window, during which investment will be made to strengthen the midfield.
