Recently a player auction was held for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Now the eyes of the fans are on the new season which is going to start in March. As IPL 2026 is coming closer, once again the discussion has started regarding Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement. Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020 itself but he is still seen playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL. CSK has retained 44-year-old Dhoni for Rs 4 crore for the upcoming season.
Like every season, this time too it is believed that this is Dhoni’s last IPL season. Although he has not given any hint yet. Meanwhile, a video of Team India’s experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami is viral on social media, in which he is seen sharing the conversation with Dhoni on retirement. Shami says, ‘I once talked to Mahi Bhai about retirement and asked him when should he retire? In response to this he said that look… the first thing is when you get bored. Secondly, when you feel that you are about to be kicked (about to be dropped from the team), then you should retire.
‘It is important to choose the best moment and take retirement’
Shami further says, ‘The most important thing is that when you start getting bored with the game, then understand that your last time has come. You should choose the best moment and retire. This video of Shami is said to be from after IPL 2024.
Shami will play for LSG
Mohammed Shami will play for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026. LSG has included him in their team by trading him from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Rs 10 crore. Shami did not perform well for SRH last season. There were question marks over his fitness and form. Now it remains to be seen how he performs for LSG. Shami has been away from Team India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
There is nothing left for Dhoni to achieve now. He has won 5 IPL titles for CSK. He also took command of the team last season after the injury of Ruturaj Gaikwad. After finishing last in the points table, Dhoni had said that the shortcomings have been rectified. There will not be much difficulties for Ruturaj in the next season.
