Guwahati, Dec 19: The inquiry into the passing of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore is still underway, with local authorities confirming that no evidence of foul play has been found thus far.
On Thursday, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) released a statement indicating that the investigation is ongoing, adhering to the Singapore Coroners Act of 2010.
According to the SPF, "Based on our current investigations, there is no suspicion of foul play in Garg's death." They noted that once the investigation concludes, the results will be forwarded to the State Coroner.
The Coroner’s Inquiry (CI), which aims to ascertain the cause and circumstances surrounding the death, is set to take place in January and February of 2026.
The Singapore police have also requested the public to avoid speculation and refrain from sharing unverified information, assuring that a comprehensive and professional investigation is in progress.
In Assam, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into Garg’s death has lodged a complaint with the Assam Police Crime Branch against Akhil Gogoi, alleging that he circulated unverified documents that were claimed to be part of the case charge sheet.
A senior official stated that distributing such documents is unlawful and could mislead the public, causing confusion.
The nine-member SIT, led by Special Director General of Police Munna Prasad Gupta, had submitted the charge sheet to the Kamrup (Metro) Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court on December 12.
Legal experts noted that certified copies of the charge sheet have not yet been made available by the court, having only been provided to the accused and their families.
According to the SIT Investigating Officer Rosie Kalita, a complaint has been filed to register an FIR against Gogoi, and the matter is currently under review for further action.
In response to these developments, Gogoi took to social media to express that he was aware of the case being filed against him for publicizing the charge sheet. He mentioned, "I am severely ill, but I will travel to Guwahati to address the case."
Previously, the SIT had charged Garg’s secretary Siddhartha Sharma, festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, and band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta with murder.
Additionally, Garg’s cousin and a suspended Assam Police officer, Sandipan Garg, faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Two of the singer’s personal security officers, Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya, have been charged with criminal conspiracy and breach of trust related to alleged financial misappropriation. Other charges include criminal conspiracy, extortion, cheating, and destruction of evidence against Mahanta, as well as conspiracy and breach of trust against Sharma, and breach of trust against Goswami, along with evidence destruction against Amritprava Mahanta.
