Will the family get lakhs as soon as the job changes? This new rule of EPFO will change your life!

If you are employed or someone in your family gets PF deducted, then this news is icing on the cake for you! The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made such a blast in December 2025, which brought tears of joy in the eyes of lakhs of families. Now the fear of insurance claim being rejected after death due to minor service break is over forever!

What was the pain till now?

Friends, till now the system was such that if an employee left the old company on Friday and joined the new company on Monday, then the intervening Saturday-Sunday was considered as “service break”. Just because of this small technical mistake, EDLI (Employees Deposit Linked Insurance) claims worth lakhs of rupees were rejected. The family would keep crying and the money would get stuck.

The weekend will no longer be a villain!

EPFO has clearly written in the new circular – If at the time of changing job, only Saturday-Sunday falls, then it will not be considered as service break. That means your service will be considered “continuous”. Now the tension of relaxing on weekends is over!

National holidays, gazetted holidays also waived!

The relief did not stop here. If at the time of changing job, 26th January, 15th August, Diwali, Eid or any government/restricted holiday falls, then those days will also not be counted as service break. Meaning your compulsion will no longer punish your family.

Even the gap of 60 days is now forgiven!

The biggest relief is that even if you work in different companies with EPF cover and there is a gap of up to 60 days between jobs, your service will still be considered “continuous”. Now taking short breaks will not take away your right to insurance and pension.

Guaranteed amount of Rs 50 thousand – to every family!

EPFO won hearts! Now the minimum payout in EDLI scheme has been increased to Rs 50,000. Even if the employee’s salary is low and PF balance is less than Rs 50 thousand, still the family will definitely get at least Rs 50 thousand.

all the more:

  • You will get it even if you have not completed 12 months of continuous service.
  • If death occurs within 6 months of last PF deduction and is on company roll, claim will be available.

This decision is a lifeline for lakhs of families who were left empty handed due to technical complications. Salute to EPFO!
