Bollywood 'threatened' by 'Dhurandhar'? RGV claims industry ignoring Ranveer starrer
25 Dec 2025
Director Ram Gopal Varma has claimed that the Indian film industry is deliberately ignoring the film Dhurandhar.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed admiration for the movie, directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, and suggested that its success has left many filmmakers feeling insecure.
Varma's critique of pan-India films and masala movies
Industry criticism
Varma also took a jibe at pan-India movies and masala films that rely on the same old formula of hero worship, item numbers, and VFX.
He believes that Dhurandhar challenges the conventional filmmaking approach prevalent in the industry.
He wrote, "Whenever a path-breaking and monstrous hit like #Dhurandhar comes, the industry people will wish to ignore it because they will feel threatened by it due to their inability to match its standards."
'Dhurandhar' will be like that monstrous dog...'
Film comparison
The Satya director wrote, "Dhurandhar will be like that monstrous dog which will be invisibly pacing around in every production office wherever the upcoming biggies are being made."
"They will try their level best to even avoid uttering the dog's name, but it will keep loitering in all their minds."
Varma's call to action for filmmakers
Filmmaker's advice
Varma advised, "To that extent #Dhurandhar will actually be like a HORROR film for all those makers who believed in the earlier template of VFX ridden, expensive sets, item song ridden and the Hero worship template."
"And now in #Dhurandhar with the film being worshiped instead of the star, they would be getting crucified in their own self-created dungeon of masala films."
'Dhurandhar' continues to dominate box office
Box office success
Dhurandhar, which was released in December, has become the 10th highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
According to Sacnilk, the movie has earned over ₹944 crore worldwide.
It features an ensemble cast including Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Soumya Tandon.
