– Chased for a kilometer, the miscreant got injured after being shot in the leg
Varanasi,. During an encounter, the police arrested a shooter carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, who was wanted in the murder case of famous colonizer Mahendra Gautam of Sarnath area in Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh. Sarnath police and SOG team took joint action and caught the criminal after chasing him for about a kilometer.
The arrested criminal has been identified as Arvind Yadav alias Fauji alias Kallu, son of Santu Prasad, resident of village Simrafaiz, Kotwali Ghazipur. He was shot in the leg in the encounter, after which he has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
DCP Varuna Zone Pramod Kumar, while confirming the encounter late on Saturday night, said that the police had received information that a criminal carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh, involved in the murder of Mahendra Gautam, along with one of his associates, was present in Saraimohana-Salarpur area on the banks of Ganga. On information, Sarnath police and SOG team immediately laid siege. Meanwhile, two suspicious youths riding a bike were seen. As soon as the miscreants saw the police, they opened fire and tried to escape. In retaliation, one criminal got injured and fell down after being shot, while his accomplice escaped taking advantage of the darkness. Police have recovered two illegal pistols, live cartridges and Rs 750 in cash from the spot. Advance legal action is being taken against the injured criminal. Police teams have been formed to arrest the absconding accused. DCP said that the main accused who hatched the conspiracy of this murder has already been sent to jail. The police team involved in the encounter included Sarnath police station incharge Pankaj Tripathi, SOG incharge Gaurav Singh, outpost incharge Rahul Yadav, Sarai Mohana outpost incharge Anuj Shukla and other police officers. According to sources, the arrested shooter Arvind Yadav alias Fauji is a close associate of notorious criminal Banarasi Yadav. Police are continuously raiding in search of Banarasi Yadav.
