The four-day winter session of the Delhi Assembly is starting from Monday, January 5. There is likely to be a heated debate on pollution and the three CAG reports presented by the government. Apart from discussing the root causes of the air pollution problem and assessing past measures, the Rekha Gupta government will table three CAG reports.

These CAG reports will be on the renovated bungalow of Arvind Kejriwal when he was the Chief Minister, the functioning of the Delhi Jal Board and the universities run by the Delhi government during the Aam Aadmi Party rule. During the assembly election campaign last year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had named the bungalow ‘Sheeshmahal’.

The issue of authenticity of the ‘hanging house’ is likely to come up again in the House as the Business Advisory Committee of the Delhi Assembly will move a resolution on it. During the monsoon session, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta had told the House that the structure, which was renovated and inaugurated as a ‘hanging house’ by then Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in 2022, was actually a ‘tiffin chamber’ as per records.

Showing a 1912 map of the Assembly complex, he had said that there was no document or evidence to show that the place was used for hanging. The session will begin at 11 am on Monday with the address of the Lieutenant Governor.

“The winter session of the Delhi Assembly will reflect the principles of orderly deliberations, transparency and responsible legislative conduct,” Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said in a statement. He reviewed the preparations for the session with senior officials of the Delhi Assembly Secretariat and Public Works Department, responsible for the smooth functioning of the House.
