The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which was seeing hopes for itself in Goa, has suffered a major setback. The party had not yet recovered from the setback in the civic elections that 5 leaders including former AAP Goa President Amit Palekar and Shri Krishna Parab, who was made the working president, have resigned from the party. Amit Palekar has alleged that decisions are being imposed from above instead of being taken after discussion. He has also said that his removal from the post of president was not acceptable to him as he had made many sacrifices for the party and even left his professional career.
In the civic elections held in December 2025, AAP had won only one seat out of the total 40 seats of Goa District Panchayat. This was a blow for AAP because former CM Atishi was made in-charge of Goa and Arvind Kejriwal himself had gone to Goa to campaign for the district panchayat elections. After these results, AAP had removed Amit Palekar from the post of president and by that time Organization Secretary (Goa) Shri Krishna Parab was made the working president.
Why did you resign?
Now along with Amit Palekar, Shri Krishna Parab has also resigned from the party. In his resignation letter, Amit Palekar has written, ‘I had joined the party believing in the idea of alternative politics but with time it became difficult to trust these ideals. If decisions in the party are imposed from above instead of being taken through mutual consultation and discussion, then not only the individual but the organization becomes weak. I am grateful to the party that I got the opportunity. I always worked to the best of my ability and worked in the interest of the party. I took this decision after much consideration.
Amit Palekar has said about the results of District Panchayat elections, ‘AAP was at second position in my assembly. Even if we don’t see it, the entire responsibility for the party’s performance was put on my shoulders and I could not tolerate the way the party removed me. I believe that the responsibility for the performance of the party also lies with the senior party and national leaders. Holding me responsible without any discussion is not acceptable to me.
Let us tell you that in 2021, Amit Palekar had joined AAP and also contested elections from St. Cruz Assembly seat. He stood third. Earlier, Rahul Mhabre used to be the President of AAP Goa. On March 31, 2022, he resigned from all posts and membership of AAP. Before him, Elvis Gomes was also the President of Goa AAP and left the party.
