Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar interacted with BLO in Deoghar, said- ‘No eligible person was left out in the Indian voter list’

Deoghar: Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said in the BLO dialogue program organized at Sri Sri Mohananand Vidyalaya, Tapovan, Deoghar on Monday that ‘just as the basis of democracy is the pure voter list, similarly the basis of the pure voter list is the BLOs who prepare it.’ Describing BLOs (Booth Level Officers) as ‘invisible heroes’ of democracy, he said that the aim of the Commission is that ‘no eligible Indian should be left out from the voter list’. He said that many times the BLOs, while doing door-to-door voter list work, did not have any ID cards to prove their identity, due to which people looked at them with suspicion. BLO identity card has been made by the Election Commission of India, so that now every BLO has his own ID card and he does not have any hesitation in door to door verification.

The Chief Election Commissioner said that intensive revision work of voter list is going on in various stages across the country. Its formal announcement has not been made yet in Jharkhand but the BLO of Deoghar has made it clear through his preparation and understanding of the process that special care will be taken of transparency and completeness during the vetting in the state.
BLO shared SIR information

In the program, BLO Pramila Yadav gave detailed information on the need for thorough revision. Gulshan Parveen explained the process of dividing the voter lists into A, B, C, D categories on the basis of age and mapping them with the old data. Geeta Kumari explained the voter list mapping, Deepam Kumari explained the eight checkpoints of mapping, Rakhi Devi and Sangeeta Devi explained the process of giving notional numbers to the houses.

Mapping of women voters will be linked to their parents

BLO Kumari Priya informed about the use of Forms 6, 7 and 8 while Razia Khatoon clarified that the mapping of women voters will be linked to their parents and not the husband’s name. Appreciating the efficiency of the BLOs of Deoghar, the Chief Election Commissioner said that soon the BLOs of Deoghar will also be invited to the BLO training program at IIIDEM, New Delhi.
BLOs are ‘watchdogs and pillars of the Election Commission’

While talking to the media, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that during his two-day stay in Deoghar-Dumka, he had darshan of Baba Baidyanath and Baba Basukinath. He described BLO as ‘the sentinel and pillar of the Election Commission’. He expressed confidence that whenever the ‘intensive revision programme’ is announced in Jharkhand, it will be conducted with ease and transparency.

The Chief Election Commissioner bluntly said that it is against the Constitution to have the name of any non-citizen in the voter list. Keeping this in mind, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has been started in 12 states of the country, which will be implemented in the entire country in the coming time. Its sole objective is to ensure the right to vote only to eligible Indian citizens. On this occasion, Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Deoghar Naman Priyesh Lakra, Sub-Divisional Officer Ravi Kumar, Deputy Election Officer Shailesh Kumar, District Public Relations Officer Rahul Kumar Bharti and many officers and employees were present.
