New Delhi, 6 January. A tragic accident took place late on Monday night in the DMRC staff quarters located in Adarsh Nagar area of Delhi. Three people of the same family died in a sudden fire on the second floor. Those killed include an assistant engineer of the metro, his wife and their ten-year old innocent daughter. The entire family was sleeping inside the flat at the time of the accident. According to the information, the fire control room received information about the fire at around 2.39 pm.
As soon as the information was received, fire tenders from the nearby fire station were immediately dispatched to the spot. When the fire brigade team reached the spot and after extinguishing the fire, a search operation was conducted inside the flat, bodies of three people were recovered from there. During this time, a fireman engaged in extinguishing the fire also got injured, who has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. A Delhi Fire Service official said, “We received information about the fire at 2:39 am. When the team reached the spot, the fire had spread significantly. After the fire was brought under control, when checked inside, three people were confirmed dead.”
At the same time, the police got information about this incident around 3 o’clock in the night. Police and forensic team reached the spot and started investigation. Initial investigation has revealed that first there was smoke inside the flat and then there was a loud explosion, due to which the fire flared up further. However, what caused the blast is not yet clear.
Police officials say that investigation is being done from all aspects to find out the exact cause of the fire. It is too early to say whether the fire occurred due to short circuit, gas leak or any other technical reason. The situation will become completely clear only after the forensic report comes.
