Draft list of SIR released in UP, 2.89 crore names will be removed from the voter list.

Lucknow, 6 January. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released the draft voter list of Uttar Pradesh under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. This draft list was earlier to be published on December 31, but now as per the revised schedule, it has been published on the Commission’s website today. After revision, 2.89 crore names will be removed from the voter list in UP.

One month time to lodge claims and objections

Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa told in a press conference that the period for filing claims and objections has been fixed from January 6 to February 6, 2026. At the same time, all the claims and objections received during the notice period from January 6 to February 27, 2026, will be disposed of.

Digitization of received calculation forms completed

The Chief Electoral Officer said that all the enumeration forms to voter list revision have been received and their digitalization has also been completed. According to the revised timetable, after the release of the draft voter list, citizens will get one month time in which they will be able to apply for adding names, making amendments or registering objections.

According to the Election Commission, the final voter list of Uttar Pradesh will be published on 6 March 2026. The Commission has appealed to the voters to check their names in the draft list and in case of any error or omission of name, lodge a claim or objection within the stipulated time.

Number of voters shifting 2.17 Ten million

Navdeep Rinwa said, ‘There were voters above Rs 15 crore who had given their signatures either themselves or through someone from their family. About 81 percent of the people signed and returned the old voter list and those who did not give are about 18 percent. There were many reasons for those who did not return the forms. The number of deceased voters was 46.23 lakh and the number of shifted voters was 2.17 crore. Whereas those whose names were found registered at more than one place were 25.47 lakh, those whose names did not appear in the draft are a total of 2.89 crore.

Maximum 12 lakh names will be cut in Lucknow

Chief Electoral Officer said, maximum names of 12 lakh voters will be deleted in Lucknow. Names of 11.56 lakh voters in Prayagraj, 9 lakh in Kanpur Nagar, 8.36 lakh in Agra, 8.18 lakh in Ghaziabad, 7.14 lakh in Bareilly, 6.65 lakh in Meerut, 6.45 lakh in Gorakhpur, 6.23 lakh in Sitapur and 5.89 lakh in Jaunpur have been deleted.

To become a new voter you will have to fill Form 6.

He said that out of 12.55 crore, 91 percent mapping has been done. Now 1.04 crore will get notice. This is eight percent. He said that to become a new voter, Form 6 will have to be filled. Fill Correction and Shift Form 8. Any member who is no longer alive or has moved to another place will have to fill Form 7 for deletion of name. So far, 15.78 crore have filled the forms to become new voters.
