You can prepare and eat Tilkut with very little ghee. Homemade Tilakut will make even the market based Gajak fail. Know how grandmothers make Tilkut. Quickly note down the recipe of Tilkut.
Tilkut Recipe
First step- To make Tilkut, you have to take about 150 grams of white sesame seeds. Take 150 grams jaggery equal to sesame seeds and 1 teaspoon desi ghee.
Second step- Roast the sesame seeds in a pan on medium flame until they turn light brown. Sesame seeds are easily roasted without oil or ghee. Just keep stirring occasionally so that the sesame seeds do not burn from below. When the sesame seeds cool down, grind them coarsely in a mixer.
Third step- Now break the jaggery into fine pieces and add it to the pan and prepare the syrup by adding 1 spoon water to it. Keep stirring the jaggery so that it melts quickly. When the jaggery starts leaving the pan and bubbles form in it, check the syrup.
Fourth step- Take water in a spoon and add 1-2 drops of jaggery syrup in it and leave it for 10 seconds. Now check if the syrup is stretching like a wire then cook it for some more time. Cook the jaggery further while stirring continuously on low flame. Now check once again by putting a few drops in the spoon. The syrup has to be cooked to such an extent that it no longer sticks and the jaggery breaks easily.
Fifth step- Now reduce the flame of the gas and add the ground sesame seeds little by little to the syrup. Turn off the gas and now set the Tilkut. For this, take a flat bowl or any lid and apply some ghee on the bottom. Pour the prepared mixture into the bowl and press it with the tip side of the rolling pin. Now the shape of Tilkut will be ready.
You can eat this Tilkut during the fast of Sakat Chauth or every day whenever you feel like eating something sweet. Tilkut is much healthier and tastier than the market’s Gajak. You can also eat it with milk.
