Leader of opposition in Tamil Nadu and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Tuesday claimed that there has been corruption worth Rs 4 lakh crore in the state since the DMK came to power in 2021. Demanding a thorough investigation into these allegations, he appealed to Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. A detailed memorandum was submitted to Ravi.

Palaniswami met the Governor at the Raj Bhavan in Guindy, Chennai, where he presented a dossier. The dossier contains department-wise details of alleged corruption cases in various government departments during the tenure of the DMK government. According to EPS, “substantial and verifiable evidence” has also been provided to support these allegations.

During this time many senior AIADMK leaders were present with him, including former minister K. P. Munusamy, Natham Viswanathan, Thangamani, S. P. Velumani, D. Jayakumar and C.V. Shanmugam.

The delegation appealed to the Governor to initiate or recommend a thorough investigation into the alleged scams. He said that a pattern of systemic corruption has been seen in the state in the last four years.

While talking to the media after meeting the Governor, Palaniswami launched a scathing attack on the DMK government. He alleged that in the last four years the government has not done any concrete work for the public and corruption has become its identity.

He said corruption is rampant in many departments and the scale of alleged financial irregularities is so large that an immediate and impartial investigation is necessary. EPS also reiterated that AIADMK has submitted the complete list along with evidence, hence a detailed investigation is necessary in the interest of transparency and accountability.

Palaniswami also raised the issue of Pongal gift scheme and questioned the government as to why Rs 5,000 in cash was not given along with the Pongal gift hamper this time. He said that when the DMK government has been repeatedly boasting of its welfare commitments, then why has it not lived up to the expectations of the public during festivals.

At the same time, the DMK government has earlier also rejected such allegations of the opposition and says that its administration is focused on social justice, development and welfare policies.

However, Palaniswami made it clear that the AIADMK will not back down from demanding accountability and will continue to approach all constitutional forums until a proper investigation is ensured. At present there has been no public reaction from the Governor on the memorandum.
