National Volleyball: Host Uttar Pradesh’s campaign continues, defeated Andhra Pradesh on the third day

Varanasi, 6 January. Host Uttar Pradesh continued its winning campaign on Tuesday, the third day of the ongoing 72nd Senior National Volleyball Championship at the Dr. Sampurnanand Sports Stadium here and easily defeated Andhra Pradesh in Group C to achieve its third consecutive win. Meanwhile, UP women also won their second consecutive victory by defeating Manipur in Group C.

Amidst the ongoing battle of wits between the leading teams across the country, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Maharashtra also strengthened their claim for the knockout round by winning their matches in a one-sided fashion. Whereas in the women’s category, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu maintained their momentum by winning one-sided matches.

UP men’s team defeated Andhra Pradesh 3-0

Talking about Uttar Pradesh men, after defeating Bihar and Telangana respectively in the first two matches, today they defeated Andhra Pradesh 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-20). Tayyab, Shakti and Aditya Rana also performed brilliantly for the hosts in the match decided in 70 minutes. UP will now meet Odisha in the fourth and final match.

In other matches in the men’s category, Kerala defeated Himachal Pradesh 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 25-20), Jammu and Kashmir defeated Daman Diu 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-9) and Punjab defeated Railways 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 29-27).

Second consecutive victory of UP women

On the other hand, in the women’s category, Uttar Pradesh defeated Manipur 3-0 (25-7, 25-6, 25-11) in its second match of Group C. In the match that lasted for 80 minutes, attackers Priyanka Dahiya and Universal Khushboo performed brilliantly for Uttar Pradesh. UP had defeated Assam on Monday. UP still has to compete with Punjab and Andhra Pradesh in the group of five teams.

In other matches in the women’s category, Bihar defeated Ladakh 3-0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-10), Karnataka defeated Puducherry 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-18) and Chandigarh defeated Odisha 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-20).

On the third day of the match, City South MLA and former minister Dr. Neelkanth Tiwari, Pindra MLA Dr. Awadhesh Singh and former MLC Brijesh Singh reached the court and got introduced to the players. District Magistrate Satyendra Kumar and Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, Prof. Anand Kumar Tyagi also enjoyed the match. Organizing Committee Chairman and Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari welcomed the guests.
