MLAs of the ruling BJP protested outside the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday. He strongly criticized the statement of AAP chief and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in which he had alleged that government school teachers were being employed to count stray dogs.

On the second day of the winter session of Delhi Assembly, both BJP and Aam Aadmi Party protested on different issues.

The ruling party hit out at the opposition over the allegation of counting dogs, while AAP continued its attack on the Rekha Gupta government over air pollution in the national capital.

Earlier, while addressing a press conference, the Delhi Education Minister strongly criticized Arvind Kejriwal for what he termed as misleading.

He accused the former CM of spreading ‘misinformation’ by claiming that government school teachers were being assigned the task of counting stray dogs.

The minister demanded a public apology from Kejriwal, saying such claims ‘distort facts’ and ‘undermine’ public trust.

He clarified that no government order has been issued directing teachers to do any work of counting dogs. Also said that it is unfortunate that Kejriwal, despite his administrative experience, is misrepresenting the issue.

Minister Ashish Sood accused AAP of practicing ‘shoot-and-scoot’ politics, where claims are made without verification and then retracted, saying, “We will not tolerate Arvind Kejriwal’s irresponsible behaviour, making false statements and running away.”

After this, BJP MLAs gathered outside the Delhi Assembly, held banners and raised slogans against the AAP chief and demanded an apology for his statements.

BJP MLA Harish Khurana accused AAP and Kejriwal of ‘insulting’ teachers and ‘misleading’ the people of Delhi by saying that the Delhi government has deployed teachers to count dogs.

“This is a blatant lie. The BJP MLAs demand that he immediately apologise, on the floor of the House and also to the country. That is why we held this protest,” he told IANS.

Speaking to IANS, BJP MLA Ravi Negi said, “Some ‘AAP’ leaders issued a false order in the name of Delhi government, claiming that Delhi teachers will be made to count dogs, whereas the government did not issue any such order.

They are misleading the public and insulting teachers. This protest will continue until an apology is made. Today, the entire city of Delhi is feeling embarrassed because both the people of Delhi and the teachers have been insulted.”

BJP MLA Anil Goyal also said that Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh repeatedly spread ‘misinformation’ in Delhi, and termed their statements as ‘false’. “No such circular was ever issued. We are protesting against it and demand that Arvind Kejriwal apologize to the public and teachers. Sanjay Singh and the Aam Aadmi Party should also apologise,” he told IANS.

BJP MLA Sanjay Goyal also criticized the AAP chief, saying, “Arvind Kejriwal’s so-called politics of lies and the way teachers are being insulted is intolerable, and he should apologise.

Sanjay Singh should also apologize. The people of Delhi have already rejected him and the same will happen in Punjab also. It is shameful and very insulting to link the duties of teachers with work like counting dogs.”

Meanwhile, following the complaint by the Education Directorate, the police have registered an FIR.

The matter pertains to the circulation of false and misleading claims on social media that teachers in Delhi government schools were being assigned the duty of counting stray dogs. Further investigation is ongoing in the matter.
