BJP announces names of 34 members for new party committee in West Bengal

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced the names of 34 members of the party’s new state committee in West Bengal. The party’s Rajya Sabha member, Shamik Bhattacharya, was elected West Bengal state president only last year.
The names of 34 members of the new state committee were announced. These 34 new names include 12 vice-presidents, five general secretaries, 12 secretaries, one treasurer, two joint treasurers, one office secretary and one joint office secretary.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday the BJP also announced the heads of the party’s three allied fronts (mass organizations). The new state committee has been announced amid the arrival of BJP National President and Union Health Minister JP Nadda in Kolkata on Wednesday night.

Union Minister Nadda will chair an important meeting of the new state committee on Thursday afternoon, where he is expected to outline the party’s strategy for the West Bengal Assembly elections.

Prominent names among the 12 vice-presidents include former party Lok Sabha member and Union Minister of State for Home Nishith Pramanik, MLA Agnimitra Paul, party Lok Sabha member Manoj Tigga, party MLAs Deepak Barman and Jagannath Chattopadhyay.

Prominent names among the five new general secretaries include two Lok Sabha MPs, Soumitra Khan and Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato, and the party’s former Lok Sabha MP and actress-turned-politician Locket Chatterjee.

Shankar Ghosh, Chief Whip of the BJP Legislative Party in the West Bengal Assembly, has been made one of the secretaries. Khagen Murmu, the party’s Lok Sabha MP, has been made the president of the party’s Scheduled Tribe Morcha in West Bengal. Medical practitioner Dr. Indranil Khan has been given the charge of the party Yuva Morcha.

Falguni Patra is the head of the party Mahila Morcha in West Bengal. Ali Hussain is the head of the Minority Front.
