Of. Kavita’s resignation from Legislative Council accepted, ties with BRS broken, now preparation for new political innings

A big chapter in Telangana politics has formally ended. The resignation of Kalvakuntla Kavitha of Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) from the Legislative Council (MLC) membership has finally been accepted. Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhendra Reddy took this big decision after Kavitha’s emotional address in the House on Monday.

The Legislative Secretary has issued an official notification in this regard. Kavita was elected unopposed as Legislative Council member from Nizamabad local body constituency in the year 2021. With the approval of his resignation, this seat has now been officially declared vacant, giving rise to rumors of another by-election in the state.

Before the resignation was accepted, a very emotional scene was witnessed during the council proceedings on Monday. Kavita could not control her tears while addressing the House. He launched a scathing attack on his own former party (BRS), alleging that when central agencies targeted him in the Delhi Excise Policy issue, the party leadership left him alone.

Kavita said, “It was morally wrong for me to continue in the position that I got from a party with which I no longer have any connection.” He termed the BRS constitution a ‘joke’ and alleged that the party has now become only a den of those who had betrayed the Telangana movement.

Of. Kavita had resigned from the primary membership of BRS and the post of MLC on 3 September 2025 itself. The step was taken just a day after his suspension. However, the Chairman did not accept his resignation at that time. Recently, on January 2, he personally met the Chairman and asked for a chance to present his views, after which the final approval was given on Monday.

There is talk in political circles that Kavitha is now preparing to convert her organization ‘Telangana Jagruti’ into a full-fledged political party. She has made it clear that she will emerge as a new force in the upcoming assembly elections. His move has not only exposed the rift within the BRS but also created a new equation in the triangular politics of Telangana.
