New Delhi, 6 December. A video of the demonstration in Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in support of Delhi riots case accused Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam surfaced on Tuesday, in which some students are seen raising controversial slogans. In this video of about 35 seconds, students are seen singing slogans like “Modi-Shah’s grave will be dug on JNU soil”, after which this video quickly went viral on social media.

It is being told that this demonstration was done in protest against the rejection of the bail plea of Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the Delhi riots case. After the video surfaced, the discussion regarding it has intensified in the university campus and political circles. Delhi government minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa reacted to the sloganeering on the campus of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) over the denial of bail to Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam.

Describing those raising slogans as separatists, he said that these people only talk about dividing the country, which is shameful. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, “If there are protests on every issue, then what will be left? These people have nothing to do with the country, the Constitution or the law. These people are separatists and only talk about things that divide the country. They have insulted the Prime Minister and the Home Minister of the country.”

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari posted the video and wrote that Urban Naxalites protested late night outside Sabarmati Hostel in JNU in support of traitors Omar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. This is not a protest, this is to promote anti-India thinking. Intellectual terrorists can be academics, doctors or engineers.

After the video surfaced, Delhi government minister Kapil Mishra wrote on social media platform The children are wailing. Those raising lewd slogans in support of Naxalites, terrorists and rioters in JNU are desperate because Naxalites are being eliminated, terrorists are being dealt with and the rioters have been recognized by the court.

Responding to the issue, JNU Students Union President Aditi Mishra clarified that every year students protest on 5 January 2020 to condemn the violence that took place on the campus. He told news agency PTI that the slogans raised during the protest were ideological and not aimed at targeting any particular person. According to Mishra, the slogans were not meant as a personal attack against anyone and were being presented in the wrong context.
