Congress meeting in Ranchi: Discussion on PESA rules

Ranchi: Congress state in-charge K Raju organized an important meeting in the capital Ranchi on Wednesday. In this meeting, there was a comprehensive discussion on the PESA rules implemented by the state government. Former minister and Congress MLA from Lohardaga Rameshwar Oraon expressed his concern regarding the PESA rules while criticizing the party and the government.

Questions raised on PESA rules

Rameshwar Oraon raised questions on PESA rules during the meeting and said that he is with the society and is not bound by any bond. He clarified that the Custom Law is not being followed in the PESA rules. Oraon said that if there is any lacuna in the PESA law, he is with the general public and will support the community. He warned that if the rules were not improved, Congress may have to face negative consequences.

Concerns to Chhattisgarh elections

During the discussion in the meeting, Rameshwar Oraon mentioned the previous election defeat in Chhattisgarh. The PESA law was already implemented there, but due to lapses in the rules, tribal voters turned away from the Congress. He said that in the last elections, Congress had won 26 out of 29 seats.

Basic principles of PESA law

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Oraon said that there are three main principles that should be followed under the PESA law, which include customary law, protection of social and religious practices, and traditional concept of land and resources. However, the first two principles are not being followed. He expressed hope for improvement from the party in-charge.

State President’s reaction

On this subject, State President Keshav Kamlesh Mahato said that there is a need to make the public aware about the misconceptions being spread against the PESA rules implemented in Jharkhand. He informed that SIR is going to be conducted in Jharkhand in the next one month and all BLAs will be appointed. Mahato also stressed on making people aware about the impact of efforts to erase Gandhiji’s name on the rural economy.
