In a press conference held in the national capital Delhi, Kheda said that the state unit of Congress is continuously protesting on the streets and this issue has become not just a local but a national question to public health. Pawan Kheda said that the Bhagirathpura incident is very unfortunate, in which many people have lost their lives and many families have been affected. He alleged that the accident occurred due to the negligence of the state government and failure of the monitoring system. Kheda bluntly said that Congress will not let this matter go in cold storage and accountability will be ensured at every level.

Compensation cannot compensate for the pain of the victim’s families – Pawan Kheda

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased after the incident and free treatment for all the affected. However, Congress leaders say that compensation cannot compensate for the pain of the victims’ families and the real need is to take strict action against the culprits. State Congress President Jitu Patwari questioned the government’s claims and said that the administration is talking about only 17 deaths, whereas the actual number could be much higher. He said that Indore, which was known for cleanliness in the country and the world, is today in the news because of poisonous water. Patwari alleged that the Mayor’s Council, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s government and the ministers concerned are directly responsible for the incident.

Congress leader Umang Singhar also made a scathing attack on the government. He said that the way the government has adopted an insensitive attitude in this entire matter is a disgrace to the city of Indore. Singhar warned that a situation like Bhagirathpura can arise in other areas also, because there too water is supplied through pipelines. He appealed to the people to remain alert. Umang Singhar also made it clear that Congress will raise this issue strongly in the upcoming assembly session. He questioned the government as to why the common people should suffer the punishment for administrative negligence. Congress leaders say that there should be a comprehensive investigation of the water supply system and a concrete policy should be made to prevent such incidents in future.
