There is no scope for reconciliation with Panneerselvam (OPS) either within the party or in any broad alliance led by Dravidian politics.

Speaking to reporters at the New Delhi airport, Palaniswami said his stand on the issue has been made clear “repeatedly and without any confusion”. It is noteworthy that Palaniswami had met Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah in the national capital on Wednesday night.

Recalling the discussions held during the resumption of ties between AIADMK and BJP, Palaniswami said Home Minister Amit Shah had assured him that the BJP would not interfere in AIADMK’s internal affairs.

When T.T.V. When asked about the possibility of including Dhinakaran-led Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) in the alliance, the AIADMK general secretary declined to comment, calling it “speculation”. However, he did say that more parties may join the alliance in the coming time, but he did not give any details.

On suggestions that the inclusion of Sasikala and Panneerselvam could strengthen the AIADMK-led NDA front, Palaniswami insisted that the AIADMK is a “strong organisation”. He said that in the 2021 assembly elections, the difference in total votes between AIADMK and DMK on 43 seats was only about two lakh.

The former chief minister also clarified that he could not meet Home Minister Amit Shah, who recently visited Tamil Nadu, because he was busy with party programs in Salem and Kallakurichi. However, he later informed them about the political situation in the state.

Palaniswami reminded that efforts were made to bring AMMK into the NDA alliance in 2021, but they could not succeed. Dhinakaran and Panneerselvam then joined the BJP during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, although they parted ways with the NDA in April 2025, a few months after AIADMK and BJP restored relations.

According to recent reports, both the leaders are in touch with actor-politician Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), while Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) is also being considered as a possible ally of the AIADMK-led front.

Some sections of the Tamil media have reported that the BJP is keen to finalize the alliance by the end of this month ahead of the possible visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
