Material

Amla – 500 grams

Sugar or jaggery – 300-400 grams (as per taste)

Desi Ghee – 4-5 tbsp

Corn Flour – 2 spoons (for binding)

Cardamom powder – 1 tsp

Chopped dry fruits – cashews, almonds, pistachios (for decoration)

Watermelon seeds – 1 tablespoon

Method of preparation

Step 1 – First wash the gooseberries. Add some water in the cooker and boil for 2-3 whistles so that they become soft.

Step 2 – Remove the seeds from the boiled gooseberries. Now put these pieces in a mixer and make a fine paste.

Step 3 – Heat ghee in a heavy bottomed pan. Add amla paste to it and fry on medium flame for 8-10 minutes until its rawness goes away and the color changes slightly.

Step 4 – Now add sugar or grated jaggery in it. When the sugar melts, the mixture will become slightly runny. Keep stirring it continuously until it starts thickening.

Step 5 – If you want to give the halwa a texture like ‘Karachi Halwa’, then add 2 spoons of corn flour dissolved in some water and stir quickly.

Step 6 – When the halwa starts leaving the sides of the pan and the ghee starts separating, then add cardamom powder, chopped nuts and watermelon seeds to it.

Step 7 – Cook the halwa for 2-3 more minutes and then turn off the flame. Then serve it.
