Drooling from the mouth while sleeping may seem like a common problem, but it can also often be a health warning. It is not right to take it lightly and ignore it. According to experts, sometimes this problem occurs only due to sleeping position or habit, but sometimes it can also be a sign of a problem with teeth, gums or throat.

main reason

Sleeping position: If you sleep on your stomach or side instead of your back, your mouth may remain open. Due to this, salivation starts flowing.

Sinus and nose problems: When the nose is blocked, people spontaneously start breathing through the mouth. This may cause drooling.

Teeth and gum problems: If there is swelling or cavity in the gums, the production of saliva may increase.

Hormonal changes or medications: Some medications and hormonal imbalances can affect saliva production.

GERD or Acid Reflux: Stomach acid reflux problem can also cause drooling during sleep.

Precautions and easy ways to prevent

Correct sleeping position: Sleeping on the back can reduce the flow of saliva.

Breathe through the nose: To keep the nose clean and blocked, clean the nose before sleeping.

Take care of gums and teeth: brush and use mouthwash daily.

Avoid heavy food: Don’t eat very spicy or oily food right before sleeping.

Drink lukewarm water: Drinking lukewarm water before sleeping keeps the moisture in the mouth balanced.

Consult a doctor: If drooling is persistent and excessive, it is important to get checked by an ENT or dental specialist.

Experts say that drooling while sleeping is often normal and temporary, but if it is accompanied by problems like difficulty in breathing, swelling in the throat or bad breath, then ignoring it can be risky for health.
