Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, chairman of An Giang Province Tourism Association, said at a meeting on Saturday that Phu Quoc has become an increasingly attractive destination for international visitors, Your Three newspaper reported.
Huy emphasized the need for a tourist police force to oversee tourism- activities, prevent aggressive solicitation and price gouging in an effort to ensure better experience for foreign tourists, reinforcing Phu Quoc’s image as a safe and welcoming destination.
Major General Nguyen Van Han, director of the An Giang Department of Public Security, said although Vietnam has yet to establish an official tourist police model, An Giang’s police force already has units capable of ensuring visitor safety, according to An Giang News Portal.
He added that businesses can contact him directly for guidance and support in resolving tourism- issues.
Thailand last year launched the “Thailand Tourist Police” app, allowing tourists to report incidents and seek assistance using messages, photos, and location data.
Phu Quoc Island, voted Asia’s most beautiful by readers of Condé Nast Traveler, expects to welcome 8.5 million tourists this year, a 5% increase from 2025. The island also aims to attract 2 million foreign visitors, up 11% year-on-year, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The island experienced a strong tourism year in 2025, receiving 8.1 million visitors, including 1.8 million foreigners.
