Amid the ongoing discussions regarding Rajya Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh Congress, a big statement of senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has come to light. Responding to the letter written by Congress’ Scheduled Caste Department State President Pradeep Ahirwar, Digvijay Singh has clearly said that this decision is not in his hands, but he also made it clear that he is vacating his Rajya Sabha seat.
In fact, Pradeep Ahirwar had written a letter demanding that Congress should field a leader from the Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe community in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. After this letter came to light, the political turmoil within the party intensified and the question began to arise whether Digvijay Singh would go to Rajya Sabha once again or not.
Reacting to this entire incident, Digvijay Singh said, ‘It is not in my hands. Whatever the party’s decision, it will be universally accepted. I can definitely say that I am vacating my seat. His statement is being considered a big political signal within the Congress. It is believed that Digvijay Singh will not go to Rajya Sabha.
Digvijay Singh’s tenure is ending in June this year. Elections are to be held on three seats in the state. Congress has 64 MLAs, BAP has 1 and Bharatiya Janata Party has 165 MLAs. Presently the tenure of George Kurien, Sumer Singh Solanki and Digvijay Singh from MP is ending. 1 59 votes are required for one seat.
