Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued strict and clear instructions to the Punjab government regarding the security of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia. The High Court clearly said that it is the constitutional responsibility of the state government to ensure the security of Majithia and any negligence in this regard will not be tolerated.
During the hearing, the High Court warned that if any negligence was found in the security arrangements at Majithia, the ADGP (Prison) and the Superintendent of Nabha Jail would be directly responsible. The High Court also made it clear that in such a situation, personal action can be taken against the officials concerned.
The High Court said that the security of any person detained in jail is not just a formal administrative responsibility, but a fundamental element of the rule of law. The High Court clarified that negligence in security would not only be considered an administrative failure but could also be a violation of High Court orders.
The High Court directed the Punjab government to regularly review all security arrangements to Majithia’s security and ensure that he is not in any danger inside and outside the jail. The High Court hoped that the State Government would take these directions seriously and would not leave any room for any untoward incident in future.
