HTET 2026 has been postponed by the Haryana Board of School Education, with the January 17–18 exam dates removed from the official website and marked “to be announced later.” The test will be held for PRT, TGT and PGT levels, each with 150 questions and no negative marking. Over three lakh candidates are expected to appear.

HTET 2026: The Haryana Board of School Education (BSEH) has postponed the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) for 2026. The examination, originally planned for January 17 and 18, has been postponed. The modification was not officially publicised, although it was noted on the official website of HTET. The exam is normally administered in two shifts over two days.

The "important dates" section previously stated that exams would be held on January 17 and 18, but now states 'To be announced later.' While the board has not issued a separate notification announcing the postponement, the elimination of the previously indicated dates obviously suggests a change to the test schedule.

The test is divided into three levels: Level 1 (PRT) for primary teachers, Level 2 (TGT) for trained graduate teachers, and Level 3 (PGT) for postgraduate teachers.

HTET 2026: Exam pattern

The HTET 2026 examination consists of three levels, each carrying 150 questions for a total of 150 marks. Every question is worth one mark, and candidates are given two hours and thirty minutes to complete the paper. There is no negative marking, ensuring that incorrect responses do not reduce the overall score.

Level 1 (PRT) focuses on Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies. This level evaluates candidates’ understanding of child psychology and their ability to teach at the primary school level.

Level 2 (TGT) includes Child Development and Pedagogy, two language sections, and a subject-specific paper where candidates can choose between Mathematics and Science or Social Studies. It is designed to assess teaching aptitude and subject expertise for the middle school level. Level 3 (PGT) follows a similar structure but features a more advanced subject-specific section suited for senior secondary education, with a higher difficulty level.

HTET Exam 2026: How many applicants are expected to appear?

The board expects over three lakh applicants to apply for the HTET 2026, including many who did not qualify in the previous session. Only roughly 14% of candidates passed the latest HTET exam, demonstrating the test's demanding nature.
