CBSE: Considering the academic harm caused to students by admissions to fake universities, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued guidelines to all affiliated schools for students and parents. These guidelines are based on a letter issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has clarified that it publishes a list of fake universities and unrecognised higher education institutions (HEIs) on its official website every year. Therefore, students and parents need to be vigilant.
Vigilance is necessary in view of the 2026-27 admission process
The board stated that the admission process for the academic session 2026-27 has already begun. At this time, it is crucial to raise awareness among students and parents at an early stage. CBSE said that if students do not receive the correct information in time, they may fall prey to fake universities, which can affect their time, money, and future.
CBSE has instructed all affiliated schools to inform Class 10 and 12 students and their parents about the dangers of fake universities. Students should be advised to check the accreditation of any college or university in the "HEIs" section on the UGC website (www.ugc.ac.in). This information should also be shared on the school's notice board, website, and during parent-teacher meetings (PTMs), so that students only enroll in recognised institutions.
