Records often fall quietly but Aman Mokhade made sure this one was impossible to miss. On Thursday, the Vidarbha opener etched his name into the Indian cricket history with a performance that underlined both class and consistency. At 24, Aman Mokhade became the fastest Indian to reach 1,000 runs in List A cricket, needing just 16 innings to do what others took longer to achieve.

In the process, he moved past well-known names like Devdutt Padikkal and Abhinav Mukund, who had reached the milestone in 17 innings. More remarkably, Aman Mokhade also matched a global benchmark that had stood for decades, equalling South African great Graeme Pollock’s record for the fewest innings needed to score 1,000 List A runs.

The milestone came in style during the semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 against Karnataka. Aman Mokhade led Vidarbha’s chase with a commanding 138 off 122 balls, an innings that blended patience with authority and ultimately guided his team to a memorable win.

This knock was only the latest chapter in what has been a stunning domestic season. Aman Mokhade began the year in red-ball cricket, piling up 577 runs in just seven innings in the Ranji Trophy at an impressive average. He then topped Vidarbha’s scoring charts in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring quickly and consistently, before taking his form to another level in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There, he finished as the leading run-scorer with 781 runs in nine innings, averaging close to 100. Across formats, his run spree has already produced eight centuries and five fifties.

In the semi-final, Karnataka posted 280 after choosing to bat, recovering from an early wobble through key partnerships in the middle overs. Vidarbha fought back late, with Darshan Nalkande delivering a decisive spell to halt the momentum.

The chase was not without its challenges. Vidarbha lost an early wicket but Aman Mokhade stayed calm, rebuilding the innings with Dhruv Shorey before shifting gears alongside R Samarth. Even while struggling with cramps towards the end, Aman Mokhade held his ground, steering his side home and stamping his authority on a record-breaking day.
