In a significant operation, authorities have dismantled an illegal firearms manufacturing and supply network that allegedly provided weapons to notorious gangsters and criminals active in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. This was confirmed by a police official on Friday.

The police reported that the action was part of a special campaign initiated to curb illegal weapons ahead of the Republic Day celebrations and to ensure public safety. As a result, five suspects were apprehended on charges related to heinous crimes, including murder.

Following the arrests, law enforcement seized 20 homemade pistols, 12 cartridges, and a substantial amount of machinery and raw materials used for illegal firearms production. On January 4, police set up a trap in the Kapashera area, leading to the arrest of Bharat, also known as Bharu (35), a resident of Palam in Delhi, who was found with a pistol and a cartridge.

An official stated that a case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Arms Act, and further questioning revealed the existence of a large-scale firearms manufacturing gang.

During the interrogation, Bharat allegedly implicated Ashraf Ali (50), who was operating an illegal firearms manufacturing unit in Meerut with his associates. Based on this information, police conducted a raid in Kali village, Meerut, where they uncovered the illegal firearms factory.

The police reported that Ashraf Ali, along with Satish (49) and Upendra (32) from Muzaffarnagar, were arrested at the scene, and heavy machinery used for mass production of pistols was confiscated.

Additionally, during the ongoing investigation, Imtiaz (28) from Dwarka was arrested, who reportedly played a crucial role in supplying illegal firearms to criminals and gangsters.

Investigators revealed that the accused were operating a firearms manufacturing unit on agricultural land, where advanced homemade pistols were produced using heavy machinery and raw materials. They noted that the supply of weapons was made solely based on demand and for financial gain.

The police indicated that all suspects have prior criminal backgrounds. Upendra, Ashraf Ali, and Satish are allegedly involved in murder and other serious offenses, while Bharat faces multiple charges of attempted murder and robbery. Imtiaz is reportedly linked to several cases of robbery, theft, and violations of the Arms Act. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
