On Friday (January 16), the ‘Startup India’ initiative completed 10 years in the country. On this occasion, a special program was organized in the national capital under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which leading startup entrepreneurs of the country participated.
In the program, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that today about 2 lakh startups are registered in India. So far, more than 21 lakh people have got employment through these startups. The Indian startup ecosystem is continuously growing stronger and is playing an important role in the economic progress of the country.
Piyush Goyal further said that Indian startups today are working in more than 50 different sectors. These include areas like technology, healthcare, agritech, fintech, drone technology and deep tech. He said that in the last budget, the government had announced a ‘Fund of Funds’ of Rs 10 thousand crore, through which high-tech and deep tech startups are being given priority.
The Union Minister also said that about 50 percent of the total startups in the country are coming from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, which is proof that entrepreneurship is no longer limited to big cities only. He said that Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are now emerging as big centers of drone manufacturing.
According to Piyush Goyal, more than 100 countries of the world want to partner with India in the startup sector. The government is planning how to take forward cooperation with these countries, so that Indian startups can get more opportunities at the global level.
Earlier, while sharing the post on social media platform X, Union Minister Piyush Goyal wrote that ‘Startup India’ revolution has completed one decade. This was a bold step, which gave India the strength to think bigger and do even bigger.
He said that the biggest proof of the success of this visionary initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the more than 2 lakh startups recognized by DPIIT in the country and the more than 21 lakh jobs generated by them.
Piyush Goyal said that what makes this success more special is the fact that it has given new energy to the spirit of entrepreneurship in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and has empowered youth and women. Speaking on the occasion of National Startup Day, he said that the journey of the last 10 years reflects continuity, inclusivity and growth, and also assures a bright future for India’s startup ecosystem.
