Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick insists he wasn't fazed by Roy Keane's criticism of his wife and stated he can brush off the views of former colleagues at Old Trafford.

Keane utilised his platform on The Overlap podcast to aim a dig at Carrick's wife, claiming she had a "big mouth" in remarks that appeared to reference Lisa's reaction to some criticism from Keane directed at her husband during the 2013/14 campaign.

Carrick gave the television interview following United's 2-0 defeat to Olympiakos in the first leg of a Champions League last-16 clash and in his capacity as a pundit, Keane directed his anger towards the midfielder who took over his No. 16 shirt at United.

"That interview was just like the performance: flat. He should say a bit more, have a bit more urgency, even in the interview," said Keane.

Lisa responded on social media, writing: "Roy Keane what a **** will say anything to provoke a reaction."

That message was later deleted, but Keane clearly remembers it, based on his swipe this week. He suggested that Carrick's wife is "probably doing the team talk" for his match in charge, reports the Manchester Evening News.

But in his first press conference as interim United boss, Carrick suggested the comments weren't an issue for him. "It didn't bother me," he said, before brushing off suggestions that ex-players will make his job more difficult.

"They're not putting more pressure on me," he insisted. "I don't feel that. There are plenty of opinions around, some positive, some not too much. It's totally irrelevant in terms of what I focus on.

"I know what we want to improve on, how we want to work with the players. There's a lot that can be said, it's the way of the world. I'm not gonna pay too much attention to that. For me, the players and staff, it's a focus on how we're going to succeed."
