Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday from Malda Town railway station in West Bengal, the first in the country Vande Bharat The sleeper will flag the train. Assembly elections will also be held in five states including West Bengal and Assam this year.

Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate and inaugurate various railway and road projects worth over Rs 3,250 crore in Malda. He will flag off seven Amrit Bharat trains, which will further strengthen West Bengal’s rail network with other states.

The first Vande Bharat chair car was launched in 2019

Railway officials said that the first in the country Vande Bharat Chair Car Train was launched on 15 February 2019. Then Vande Bharat version 2.0 was launched on 30 September 2022 followed by Vande Bharat 3.0 in 2025. With this, the first Vande Bharat Sleeper is now scheduled to be launched on 17 January 2026.

However, in 2027, the country will see a more advanced version of the Vande Bharat, version 4.0, equipped with an advanced version 5.0 of armor. Not only this, besides launching high-speed trains, the railways is also working on building better railway tracks to run them. Railways also says it is working on building some dedicated high-speed corridors. These trains can run at a speed of 350 km per hour just like a bullet train.

4,500 Vande Bharat trains by 2047

Railway officials also said that the number of Vande Bharat trains, which started as Vande Bharat chair cars in February 2019, will increase to 164 by December 2025. This number is constantly increasing. This number will increase to 800 by 2030 in Vande Bharat fleet of Railways. This number is expected to increase to 4,500 by 2047. This train will include both Vande Bharat Chair Car and Sleeper Train.

Currently, the new Vande Bharat sleeper trains are designed for a distance of 1,000-1,500 km. However, in future, Vande Bharat sleeper services will also be introduced for longer distances like Kashmir and Kanyakumari. The Railways says that the Vande Bharat Chair Car has become a popular train across the country. Every state wants more Vande Bharat sleeper trains in their region. Apart from various state governments, MPs from ruling and opposition parties also want to run Vande Bharat Express in their respective areas. Vande Bharat Express will now be added as a sleeper train from Saturday. Depending on its performance and facilities, this train will be introduced in phases to provide facilities to each state.
