IPL 2026: SWOT analysis of Sunrisers Hyderabad - Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (Photo source: IPL)
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) entered the IPL 2025 season with one of the most formidable squads on paper, featuring explosive batters such as Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and emerging talents like Nitish Kumar Reddy. Despite their firepower, SRH failed to secure a top-four finish, continuing a trend of inconsistency in recent seasons.
The franchise, however, has a proud history, lifting the IPL trophy in 2016 and reaching the final in IPL 2024, where they were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders. Heading into the IPL 2026 mini-auction with a purse of INR 25.50 crore and 10 slots to fill, SRH made several strategic additions to strengthen their squad and remain title contenders.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) secured Shivang Kumar, Sakib Hussain, Omkar Tarmale, Amit Kumar, Praful Hinge, and Krains Fuletra for INR 30 lakh each at the IPL 2026 auction. They also signed Punjab wicketkeeper-batter Salil Arora for INR 1.50 crore. In addition, SRH made big acquisitions by picking up Liam Livingstone for INR 13 crore, Shivam Mavi for INR 75 lakh, and Jack Edwards for INR 3 crore.
StrengthsSRH’s biggest strength lies in their exceptional batting depth and power-hitting ability. The opening combination of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma provides aggressive starts, often putting opposition bowlers under pressure from the outset. The middle order is equally destructive, with Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ishan Kishan, and Aniket Verma, all capable of scoring big runs with ease.
The addition of Liam Livingstone, Jack Edwards, and Salil Arora further enhances SRH’s firepower, making them one of the most intimidating batting units in the league. These players can comfortably strike at rates exceeding 180-200, allowing SRH to dominate high-scoring encounters.
Weaknesses

Despite their batting strength, SRH’s bowling unit remains a concern. The trade of Mohammed Shami to Lucknow Super Giants weakened their pace attack significantly. Currently, the pace department relies on Pat Cummins, Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, Shivam Mavi, and Brydon Carse, options that lack consistency compared to rival franchises. The spin department, comprising Harsh Dubey, Zeeshan Ansari, and Kamindu Mendis, appears inexperienced and underpowered, making SRH vulnerable on spin-friendly tracks.
Opportunities
SRH Team (Source: IPL)
SRH has a golden opportunity to capitalise on their aggressive batting philosophy. If their batters maintain form and bowlers deliver disciplined spells, the team can overpower opponents and push for a second IPL title. A slightly revamped squad provides renewed optimism heading into IPL 2026.
ThreatsThe biggest threat to SRH is their own ultra-attacking approach. While aggression has brought success, last season showed that reckless shot selection in pressure situations can backfire. If SRH fail to balance intent with stability, their attacking mindset could once again derail their title ambitions.
