On November 1, Aarti Pandey took Bittu out for grazing, following her usual routine. After letting the buffalo roam freely, she expected it to return home by evening, as it always did. Filing a Missing Animal Complaint

After hours of searching and questioning relatives, neighbors, and acquaintances, the family found no trace of the buffalo. With no other option left, Aarti Pandey approached the local police station and filed a missing livestock complaint. However, the man who had the buffalo, known locally as Shivkol, denied her claim. He stated firmly that the buffalo belonged to him and refused to hand it over. This disagreement quickly escalated into a serious ownership dispute, forcing both parties to return to the police station.

The police listened to both sides patiently. Each party presented their version of events, but no concrete proof such as purchase documents or witnesses could conclusively settle the matter. The authorities attempted mediation and negotiation, hoping for a mutual settlement, but neither side was willing to compromise.

An Unusual Proposal

When discussions reached a dead end, Aarti Pandey’s husband, Anil Kumar Pandey, made an unconventional suggestion. He proposed that instead of relying on arguments, the decision should be left to the buffalo itself. His idea was simple yet powerful: if the buffalo voluntarily went to Aarti Pandey’s home without any pressure, then she should be recognized as the rightful owner.

Surprisingly, both the police and villagers agreed to this proposal. It was decided that the buffalo would be released at a neutral point, around 600 meters away from the houses, in the presence of officials and local residents.
