Preparation for demonstrations in major cities
Greenlandic organizations have organized large marches and rallies in Copenhagen, Aarhus, Aalborg and Odense in Denmark, as well as in Greenland’s capital Nuuk. Thousands of people have supported these demonstrations on social media. In Copenhagen, protesters will rally to the US Embassy, while in Nuuk, starting at 4 pm, protesters will march to the US Consulate carrying Greenlandic flags. Organizer of the demonstration ‘Uagüt’ (Organization of Greenlanders living in Denmark) says that this fight is not only to protect Greenland, but to protect international law and self-respect.
Protests within America too
The interesting thing is that this plan of Trump is not getting full support even within his own country. A delegation of Democratic and Republican lawmakers from the US Congress, who reached Copenhagen, made it clear that Trump’s thinking does not represent the general opinion of the American public. Along with this, European countries have also supported the autonomy of Greenland.
