A tableau caught fire during a grand procession of village deities organised as part of Ramotsava in Ramanagara, creating panic for some time on Friday night.
The incident occurred on the second day of Ramotsava, when an elaborate procession of deities was taken out. Renowned tableaux from Madikeri had been brought for the procession and were scheduled to be displayed at major junctions in the town.
However, as the tableau display began in front of the Revenue Office building, one of the tableaux suddenly caught fire. The tableau was briefly engulfed in flames, leading to panic among those present.
It is suspected that the fire broke out due to a short circuit. Further details are awaited.
