Wrexham's Saturday afternoon clash with Norwich City was brought to a halt midway through the second half because of a medical emergency in the crowd. The players were taken off the pitch with the score locked at 1-1.
A social media post from Wrexham read: "Due to a medical emergency in the crowd the game has been paused and the players have left the field." With the official Norwich account adding: "The referee has stopped play due to a medical emergency in the crowd. Our thoughts are with those affected."
The Norwich account shared an update shortly after the initial delay, saying: "The game will restart after a five-minute warm up for both teams. Our best wishes go out to the supporter who required medical assistance."
The match was halted for around 10 minutes, with play eventually restarting after both teams completed a five-minute warm-up. Norwich had found the opener after just nine minutes when Anis Ben Slimane netted for the visitors, but Sam Smith ensured the scores would be level at the break with an equaliser midway through the first half.
Before the match, it was revealed that midfielder and club captain James McClean would be leaving the club for a fresh challenge. The Irishman has featured in two promotion campaigns for the Welsh outfit, with reports linking him to a League of Ireland return.
Wrexham's CEO Mike Williamson said: "Jimmy's going on to pursue another opportunity that he's looking at." It's suggested McClean could be heading for a return to boyhood club Derry City, where the 36-year-old played as a youngster.
