Mumbai, Jan 17 Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane has informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he will not participate in the remaining Ranji Trophy matches this season due to personal reasons, the MCA confirmed on Saturday.
Rahane, 37, who has been a mainstay of Mumbai’s batting lineup, communicated his decision ahead of the team’s upcoming fixtures. Mumbai is scheduled to play two more league matches in the Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season — first away against Hyderabad (January 22–25) and then against Delhi at the MCA-BKC ground (January 29–February 1).
A source within the MCA told The Indian Express that the squad for the Hyderabad match was set to be picked on January 17, and Rahane will not be available for selection after conveying his plans not to play in the red-ball competition’s remaining games.
This season has been a modest one for Rahane in the Ranji Trophy, with the experienced batter scoring only one century in four matches, a return below expectations for a player of his calibre.
Rahane has been part of Mumbai’s Ranji setup for the past two seasons and has not featured for the Indian national team since July 2023. In the Indian Premier League, he is signed with the Kolkata Knight Riders and is expected to take the field in the upcoming IPL season.
