Sri Lanka started with a win in Under-19 World Cup 2026, crushed Japan badly

SL Under-19 vs JPN Under-19, 8th Match: Sri Lanka has achieved a big victory in the 8th match of the Under-19 World Cup. Sri Lanka have made a great start to the Under-19 World Cup 2026, thanks to the historic partnership between Dimantha Mahavithana and Viran Chamuditha. This team won against Japan by a huge margin by 203 runs at the Namibia Cricket Ground.

After losing the toss and opting to bat, the Sri Lankan team scored 387 runs after losing 4 wickets in the stipulated overs. The opening pair of Dimantha Mahavithan and Viran Chamuditha made a partnership of 328 runs in 43.5 overs. This is the record for the highest partnership for any wicket in the history of Under-19 World Cup.

Dimantha Mahavitana was out after scoring 115 runs in 125 balls with 11 fours. Viran also lost his wicket in the very next over, who scored 192 runs in 143 balls with 1 six and 26 fours. This is the highest individual score in the Under-19 World Cup. Apart from these, captain Vimath Dinsara played an unbeaten inning of 44 runs in 24 balls with 2 sixes and 1 four. From the opposition camp, Timothy Moore took 3 wickets for 43 runs in 6 overs.

In response, Japan could score only 184 runs after losing 8 wickets in the stipulated overs. This team got an initial blow in the form of Nikhil Paul (0) on the second ball. Kelly made a 50-run partnership with Taylor Waugh for the fourth wicket and took the team to the century mark, but could not take it closer to victory. Kelly played an unbeaten inning of 101 runs in 162 balls with 1 six and 6 fours. Apart from these, Kazuma Kato Stafford scored 19 runs, while Taylor Waugh scored 18 runs. From the Sri Lankan camp, Sethmika Seneviratne, Jeevanth Sriram, Viran Chamuditha, Rasith Nimsar, Vigneshwaran Akash and Chamika Henathigala took 1 wicket each.
